United States of America

Well, I’ve only been to New York City – where I had fun.  It won’t be my last trip to the states.  I’m planning an overland trip there one summer (when we have weeks to play with) to see sights and of course see friends, since I now have lots of American friends.

When: December 2005, for 5 days

Where: New York City

Who: with my mother

How: we flew in and out from London direct to NYC (JFK)

Weather: Cold!  Mostly clear skies, but coat, hat, scarf and gloves were needed!

Food: good, but expensive once you factored in the 20 – 25% service tip!

Sights & Activities: We did all the tourist things and totally loved it!  The Empire State Building for great views, a boat ride around the Statue of Liberty, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) – amazing, amazing collection of modern and contemporary masters! a bit of shopping.

Tips: Orienting yourself and walking around NYC is dead easy after old European cities and crazy Asian cities.  The grid plan and the numbered system of naming streets and avenues makes it really easy to figure out where you are and how far you need/can walk  loved it!
