Travelling Across Generations: The Great Wall of China

One of the world’s most famous human achievements, the Great Wall is a wonderful place to visit. Seeing it snake up and down the hills of northern China is one of the most magnificent things I have ever seen or stepped foot on.  My grandmother went there on her cruise in January 1933.  For me, my visit was also part of an epic journey when Andrew and I went at the start of our Hong Kong to London overland trip in 2005. Whilst we travelled up to the wall by bus and car, my grandmother had a very different mode of transport to get there:

Like other ancient monuments, the Great Wall has stood the test of time and a gap of 72 years has seen little change.
