Morocco: Chefchaouen

This small town in northern Morocco is a gorgeous place to visit. Sleepy, slow paced and popular with backpackers and tourists. It’s main draw are the streets of the old medina many of which have been painted in different shades of blue.  It is a photographer’s paradise and it is small enough to be able to get familiar with it quickly. We spent just 2 nights here and wanted to extend, but our fantastic hotel, Dar Echchaouen, was full, so we decided to move on.  There are not many big ‘sights’, though the old Kasbah (fort) is quite interesting and there is a nice walk up the hill to the ‘Spanish Mosque’ the view from which is worth the climb up.

What follows here are some of the pictures I took.

I think for me that Chefchaouen was a highlight our trip. Partly due to the lovely hotel we had, which had a very Moroccan feel, friendly staff, was next to the medina and had the wonderful pool.  It was mainly due to the charm and laid back feel of the town itself.  I highly recommend a visit here!
