Our honeymoon destination it is the only country with the word ‘love’ within it. We chose Slovenia as our honeymoon destination as we wanted a small, manageable, relaxed destination after the intense travels of wedding celebrations in 3 continents.  It’s a wonderful country, with varied landscape and friendly people.

When: August 2009

Where: We crossed the border near Italy, headed down to the coast. Drove to Bled and then over the mountains to Ljubljana (the capital)

Who: with A.

How: We crossed in overland, hired a car and drove around. Out of Ljubljanaby plane

Weather: warm and sunny, cooler evenings, especially in the hills and mountains

Food: wonderful blueberries and good wine

Sights: small stretch of coast, Lake Bled, Bled Castle, Ljubljana old town

Surprises: the varied geography within such a small country (Mediterranean coast, lake, alpine mountains & hills, city)

Tips: take a boat out on Lake Bled and walk or run around the lake too – great way to see all sides.
