Hong Kong Reading – updated

Shortly after I posted about books set in Hong Kong the South China Morning Post (Sunday edition) published an article with their own list of books set in Hong Kong.  I thought the list would make an interesting follow-up post. Two of them appeared on my list, the rest didn’t so it looks like I’ve got a bit of reading to do!

The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham (1925)

Love in a Fallen City (1943),  Lust, Caution (1979) both by Eileen Chang

A Many-Splendoured Thing (1952) by Han Suyin

The Drunkard (Jiu-tu) (1963),  Intersection (Duidao) (1972) by Liu Yichang

The Monkey King (1978), An Insular Possession (1986) by Timothy Mo

Kowloon Tong (1997) by Paul Theroux

Hong Kong Rose (1997) by Xu Xi

The two that I have read and posted on are Tai Pan by James Clavell and Fragrant Harbour by John Lanchester

Original article “Polished Pearls” by James Kidd, Sunday China Morning Post 5th May 2013)

Has anyone read any of these? Care to comment or recommend? Post your answers!
